Fire

Had a bit of a shock this morning when I woke up to screeching sirens of Niihama’s Finest way far off in the distance, trouncing through rice paddies and flocks of old people playing gateball out in the parks in a vain attempt to get to this GINORMOUS ball of fire that was consistently growing larger a couple blocks away from my apartment building. The sirens were nicely complimented by an exceptionally calm automated Japanese woman’s voice who placidly (and politely) reminded (the twelve) people (who live in Niihama) to get the HELL out of the way. By the time I had to go to school the conflagration had been put out, but t’was rather scary. I do hope whoever was inside made it out safe and sound.

Two recent views out my window. Japan continues to surprise me (between fires and snow). Remember to unplug your hair straighteners, people.
